Rita-Lucy Ohaituk was one of eight high school students in Inukjuak who documented their final year of school in Inuuvunga: I Am Inuk, I Am Alive, a participatory media initiative undertaken by the NFB in 2004. Mentored by professionals from Montreal’s EyeSteelFilm, the young trainee videographers fashioned a vibrant coming-of-age journal, detailing everyday life and exploring a broad range of issues confronting their community, including youth suicide and cultural upheaval. Also on the team: Bobby Echalook, Laura Iqaluk, Willia Ningeok, Caroline Ningiuk, Dora Ohaituk, Linus Kasudluak and Sarah Idlout.
