Maurice Bulbulian

Born in Montreal in 1938, Maurice Bulbulian worked as an NFB director, screenwriter and editor from the early sixties up until the late nineties. He was a major proponent of direct cinema, cinéma verité and socially engaged documentary filmmaking at the NFB. During his 40-year-long career at the Board, Bulbulian directed or co-directed 20 films, in North America, Latin America and Africa, mainly depicting the struggles and organizing attempts of excluded communities and working-class people. His films Little Burgundy (1969), Salvador Allende Gossens: A Testimony (1974), Our Land, Our Truth (1983), Dancing Around the Table (1987) and The Nitinaht Chronicles (1997) are considered NFB classics.
