“I feel compelled not only to celebrate but to dissect and explore my native heritage, how it relates to the European culture and how the two cultures, of which I am a part, interact and affect each other.” So states Jerry Evans, a Mi’kmaq artist based in St. John’s, Newfoundland. His visual art is represented in collections across Canada and the world, and his film credits include the short Vistas: Red Ochre, a reflection on his own past fashioned from archival photography and film.
