Gerald Auger is an actor, filmmaker and motivational speaker from the Bigstone Cree Nation in Alberta. An appearance in the opening ceremonies of the 1995 Canada Winter Game would lead to a role in Il Mio West (1998), a spaghetti western starring David Bowie and Harvey Keitel. Since then he’s amassed numerous acting credits, including roles in TV shows like Hell on Wheels and Into the West. Directing credits include Walking Alone and Honour Thy Father, a personal meditation on Woodland Cree spirituality. He operates Black Eagle Entertainment and counsels youth through Calgary’s Impact Society where he’s Director of Indigenous Leadership & Development.

    This short film is an edgy, searing portrait of an ex-gang member trying to make peace with his past. Rapper Shawn Bernard raps about the various struggles in his life, the choices he's made and their consequences, while poignantly recounting the loss of his sister. First Stories is an emerging filmmaker program for Indigenous youth which produced 3 separate collections of short films from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. Produced in association with CBC, APTN, SCN, SaskFilm and MANITOBA FILM & SOUND. e an impressive debut - one wrought with emotion and hope.

    This short documentary takes a poignant look at cultural misunderstanding and its toll on a family's grief. When filmmaker Gerald Auger lost his father, the local Anglican priest refused to allow the family to bury their father in the traditional Cree way - with the drum and the smudge - because he was buried on Anglican church property. Gerald sets out to resolve his hurt and anger and his path leads him to some unexpected places.

    Second Stories follows on the heels of the enormously successful First Stories project, which produced 3 separate collections of short films from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. Second Stories builds on that success by continuing the training with 3 of the 12 Indigenous filmmakers who delivered such compelling short documentaries. Produced in association with CBC, APTN, SCN, SaskFilm and MANITOBA FILM & SOUND.
