One of Canada’s leading Indigenous playwrights, Drew Hayden Taylor enjoys joking about his ancestry: “I like to say that I’m half Ojibwe, half Caucasian, which makes me an ‘occasion’—I like to think a special occasion.” He has written over 20 plays and 30 books, including Take Me to Your Chief, a 2016 collection of Indigenous-themed science-fiction writing. His film credits include Redskins, Tricksters and Puppy Stew (2000), a documentary on Indigenous humour. He has been writer-in-residence at universities in Canada, Germany and the USA, and has served as artistic director with Native Earth Performing Arts, Canada’s foremost Indigenous theatre ensemble.
