An Ojibwe filmmaker from northern Ontario, Daniel Prouty studied film at Thunder Bay’s Confederation College, and his first project, For Angela, a docudrama co-directed with Nancy Trites Botkin, garnered honours at the American Indian Film Festival and the 1995 Gemini Awards. First Nation Blue, his nuanced examination of policing within Ontario’s Indigenous communities, won the Best Documentary Award at the American Indian Film and Video Competition in 1997.
