Tlingit filmmaker Carol Geddes was part of the first wave of Indigenous directors at the NFB. With Doctor, Lawyer, Indian Chief (1986), she profiled Indigenous women who distinguished themselves in non-traditional professions, and with Picturing a People: George Johnston, Tlingit Photographer (1997), she crafted a vibrant visual history of her own people. In 1991, Carol was appointed head of the newly established Studio One, an NFB unit dedicated to Indigenous production, and she remained in the position until 1996 when the studio was closed. Her many credits include the animated film TwoWinters: Tales from Above the Earth and the youth-oriented TV seriesAnash and the Legacy of the Sun-Rock.
