A writer/director of Cree/Métis and Danish descent, Adam Garnet Jones premiered his first short, Cloudbreakers, at the 2006 edition of TIFF, returning in 2015 with his audacious first feature, Fire Song. A story of suicide and queer sexuality set in a northern Indigenous community, it won the Writers Guild of Canada’s Jim Burt Screenwriting Prize, imagineNATIVE’s Audience Choice Award and other honours. His young adult novel of the same name, published in 2018, has garnered similar acclaim. Other director credits include Great Great Great, named Best Feature at the 2017 Canadian Film Festival, and the 2009 short Vistas: Wave a Red Flag, one in a series of NFB films by Indigenous directors on the theme of nationhood.
