Nadia Myre

Nadia Myre is a visual artist whose work is in permanent collections at the National Gallery of Canada and other prominent institutions. An Algonquin member of the Kitigan Zibi Anishinaabeg First Nation, she engages with issues of identity and belonging. In presenting Myre with the 2014 Sobey Art Award, the jury praised her inventive application of traditional craftsmanship to contemporary art practice: “Her artwork creates a symbolic image of wounding and resilience that conveys something deeply human while addressing urgent social concerns.” Her film credits include the stylish short As I Am (2010), an affirmation of workplace diversity set to poetry by Kanien’kéhaka (Mohawk) writer Janet Marie Rogers.
